Our Detectives Detect a Confidential Data Leak at a Technology Company in Valencia

A cybersecurity startup with offices in Valencia noticed irregularities in its ongoing projects. Several ideas that were still in a confidential development phase appeared to be implemented by a competing company with surprisingly fast turnaround. After ruling out technical failures in their systems, the company’s executives suspected a potential internal data leak and decided to contact our team at R&P Detectives Asociados.

Our detectives, specialised in digital investigations, launched a forensic IT audit, examining server access logs, browsing patterns, and permissions for sensitive files. Techniques such as metadata analysis, log review, and the detection of anomalous access from non-corporate devices were applied.

The investigation revealed that one of the employees, recently hired, had used remote desktop software to transfer confidential documents to a personal cloud account, outside the company’s control. Furthermore, encrypted messaging communications were uncovered between the employee and a contact linked to the competing tech firm.

All activity was thoroughly documented, including exact dates, the files involved, and screenshots verifying the irregular conduct. The report was handed over to the startup’s legal team, who proceeded to file a formal complaint for breach of confidentiality and requested precautionary legal measures.

Thanks to the intervention of our detectives, the tech company was able to stop the data leak and strengthen its internal security systems, implementing new access control protocols and safeguarding strategic data. This case highlights the importance of having private detectives specialised in IT investigations to protect a company’s most valuable assets.
